Here we go. We are back better than ever. This week a couple of great videos were put out. Hit the jump to check out our favorite videos from this week.

This list would not be complete without Kriss Kyle's amazing part he released this week. Screw the Kardashians, this should have broken the internet. Everything from his first fakie frontflip to the last banger is jaw dropping.
Dennis Enarson and Ronnie Napolitan traveled to Portugal to film this video. Sadly, it got a little overlooked because of the Kriss Kyle video. Dennis Enarson and Ronnie Napolitan can and will ride anything you put in front of them. And they will blast it higher than anybody else! Check it!
Andrew is one of the people that helped build Heathens trails in Pennsylvania. He throws a bit of dirt and then proceeds to go higher and faster than everyone else. While we don't usually post trails stuff we feel this is too good not to post it!
Before I even begin I would like to apologize for being behind on posts lately. I have been very busy with college visits and what not. Now that I have been accepted to the Art Institute of St.Louis for Photography I would like to celebrate by showing some photos. Also, if you click HERE then you can see the Deviant blog that is dedicated to photography. I also have a very exciting project coming up in the future, so keep an eye out for that!

Today I will be reviewing the Demolition Rotator Freecoaster Wheel (Rotator v2 hub and Demolition Zero rim).
" The Demolition Rotator Freecoaster wheel is built with a Demolition Zero double wall rim laced 4x with black 14g spokes and nipples to Ryan "Biz" Jordan's signature Rotator freecoaster hub. The Rotator hub features a CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum hub shell with proven KHE internals, 1-pc chromoly driver with sealed needle bearings for reliability, angular contact bearing (ACB) for additional side load support and a 14mm heat-treated chromoly axle. Includes 3 slack adjustment washers for fine tuning."

A lot of bmx riders honestly don't understand freecoasters, and that's ok. For the uninformed, every current freecoaster (excluding the unrealeased Eclat Blind and Ezra/Salt Freecoaster/Cassette) have just about the same hub internals, with a different shell. As time has gone on, more and more companies have began to use proven (and fairly old) KHE/Yuhub freecoaster internals. When KHE first started making coasters, they sucked. The bearings blew a ton. Eventually they got more and more reliable with the use of ACB bearings that can withstand the weird forces that coaster internals deal with, and just recently Cult introduced the Match Freecoaster, which uses needle bearings, a new even stronger type of bearing that a lot of companies have began to use in their drivers. Luckily for us, that means stronger hubs and lots of cross-brand compatibility. Now on to the actual review!

*YOU SHOULD RE-GREASE YOUR FREECOASTER AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 2 MONTHS*

First Impressions
The one main thing that stuck out to me about this wheel is that it is more or less the exact same as all of the other freecoaster wheels available, but is $30-70 cheaper than its competitors (excluding the Sunday Freecoaster Wheel). Plus, the rim is extremely strong, especially at this price. Plus, just like most KHE internal freecoasters, it fits the nice plastic snap on Primo Freemix guards with just an extra spacer. When I first received the wheel, I immediately disassembled it completely and set it to maximum slack with no spacers, and the hat washer flipped for even more slack. I also replaced the grease with Phil Wood grease, but that's just a personal preference. After assembling it, I replaced the non drive side cone nut with the Freemix NDSG and a 14mm spacer to keep the correct spacing.
It fit right one (as it should) and I haven't had any issues of wheel slip which other plastic guards often cause.

Riding Notes
For about the first 30 minutes of riding a brand new freecoaster, you might hear a popping or creaking sound as you pedal, but that is just the clutch breaking in, so don't worry. After that, I rode down to my neighbor's house and rode his quarter pipe and grind box. The hub guard slid quicker than a metal guard would, and the heat treated chromoly axle held up nicely. I haven't had any problems with it engaging in fakie and throwing me off, but that is probably because I run so much slack on my hub. The less slack you have, the more likely it is that this will happen. The rim was perfectly true, and I haven't seen any bending or dishing of the rim so far. I haven't had any breakages in the couple of months that I have been riding it, and I grease my hub every 2 weeks or so to make sure it stays that way. I haven't had any broken or blown bearings or bent or snapped axles so far.

Pros
-Cheap
-Strong rim
-Strong axle and internals, with needle and ACB bearings
-Fits Freemix snap on guards
-No rim wobble or hub wobble
-backwards compatibility with a lot of other KHE hubs and internals

Cons
-a thrust bearing behind the clutch would have made crankflips and back pedaling a bit smoother
-hub shell looks sort of odd
-I would have liked to see a polished hub option
-4x lacing isn't bad, just an odd choice that I don't see very often
-Just about the same as every other freecoaster

Hub Durability: 9/10
Rim Durability: 9.5/10
Visual appeal: 7/10

Final Conclusion
This wheel is a great choice for people who want a solid coaster wheel at a good price. Having the ability to use Primo Freemix guards is great as I am not a fan of aluminum hub guards, and the addition of the ACB and needle bearings ensure that this hub is ready to take what you can dish out. If you do a lot of crankflips into and out of grinds, this might not be the best choice as it doesn't spin quite as easily as a hub that has a thrust bearing behind the clutch. Overall, I give it an 8.5/10 for lacking a thrust bearing and not having regular 3x lacing.
This week, the BMX community got absolutely drowned in amazing web edits and tons of footage from the annual Texas Toast contest. The couple of videos that really stood out among the sea of new edits were Charlie Crumlish's coverage of Texas Toast, Erik Elstran's 2014 Sunday video and Colony rider Bobby Altiser's 2014 edit, More details after the jump

Texas Toast, in my eyes is the best thing that has happened to BMX in the past 5 or 10 years. It's a time where all of BMX comes together, puts aside petty differences and rivalries and parties the hardest that you've ever seen. Even the competitions are less competitive, so riders just have fun, and the other little "contests" like "Ring the Bell", The Gauntlet of Death, and this year's special Mike Tag memorial metal peg only, no wax brick ledge challenge were off the hook. I really don't see anything even close to that in BMX happen other than at Toast.

I don't care at all for park riding, but front brake wizard Bobby Altiser is one of the few exceptions to that rule. His edit is so chock full of NBD's and WTF's that I had to watch it a few times before I even began to understand what the hell he was doing. He has his ice stalls, tooth stalls, on coping stalls and back wheel pivots on lock. But the one thing that really stood out to me was his toothpick stall with a footjam whip (or two or three) inside of the stall. Plus the fact that he looks more comfortable hurtling backwards than most people when they walk.

Last up is Erik Elstran's 2014 Sunday Web VIdeo. I really have no idea how to even begin to describe the level of creativity that went into this edit. I don't even think half of these tricks have names or have ever been done before, but damn does he make them look steezy as hell. The insane curved wallride to firecracker and the curved wallride to smith put a smile on my face. You really just have to see it to understand!
He was wearing a helmet (uncertified), but even with the helmet it knocked him out and damaged his brain. Once at the hospital they decided to put him into a coma. He had to re-learn how to walk, talk, and ride a bike. Throughout this whole event Brett has been nothing but positive. With all of this being said we are EXTREMELY excited to post this video from VitalBMX of Brett riding again. He has been working very hard and has been an inspiration to everybody here at Deviant. Without further ado I give you Mad Dog:
"My music tastes are weird, and I mean really weird. Most of the stuff that I listen to might not seem too odd by itself, but when it's all put together into a playlist, it just is straight up crazy to have some '70's classic rock right next to DJ Screw and some progressive house music. I listen to a lot of genres of music, but as shown by this playlist, most of that music tends to be slower paced, except for a few outliers."
My music taste is also kind of weird. Not the songs necessarily, but I can go from Metal to Rap and then back to metal. I love it. This is only a fraction of the songs that I listen to. While I do not listen to music while riding I do while taking photos. It helps me focus actually. Keeps the part of my mind that gets easily distracted from being distracted.

First up we have the weirdest video you will see this week that is BMX-related. If you don't believe me check out that candy bar grind down a rail. who brings you all these creative moves? Among others we have Rob Diquattro and the king of weird, Arik Elstran.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you if there is even riding in this video. What I can tell you however is that Terry Adam's wife is in it and she is stunning. I think Terry might be in there too, but who knows.

If you like trails, bowls and even a little bit of street AND you like it to look damn good at the same time then you need to watch this. Chad Osburn and Chris Doyle kill it on pretty much everything.

That pretty much covers the top videos from this week. On the news side of the equation we have some sad news. Frankie Blue was hit while riding his motorcycle on his way home from Dreamline. He did not make it. Ryan Guettler and his girlfriend set up a GoFundMe page to help his family pay the medical bills. If you can donate anything it would be very much appreciated by us at Deviant, the entire Greenville community, and the BMX community as a whole. Chances are, that a lot of bikers, especially those who started out on complete bikes or just buy a lot of parts have experienced this "oh crap" moment.
All of a sudden, the stem you have on your bike just won't come off of the steerer tube even though the pinch bolts are out, or a used stem just wont fit on. You probably have a pinched stem, or a stem that was over-tightened and doesn't naturally go back to its un-tightened shape even with no bolts. Fear not, for there is an easy fix. All you need is two pennies, the allen key to tighten your stem bolts, and the stem itself. First you are going to remove the two bolts on the back of your stem completely. Then you should start threading in both bolts from the opposite side of where they usually sit, until the tip of the bolt is just showing in the cut out slit between both sides of the back of the stem. Finally, put a penny on the tip of each bolt as you tighten, and the coin should contact one side of the slit, and allow the bolt to be tightened to push up against it. Carefully tighten each bolt 1/8 of a turn at a time until it slips right off of the forks. Follow the same procedure in reverse to install a pinched stem.
This week we are breaking our normal format. The reason for this is because there are two videos that came out today that shut the internet down. Those two videos are from Kriss Kyle and Chase Hawk. If you hit the jump there is some other news from the week, but really the main focus is the amazing bowl riding showcased by Kriss and Chase.

First up we have Kriss Kyle. Kriss got access to the street dome in Denmark for four days and murdered it before it even opened. Not only is Kriss' riding amazing, but the park itself is pretty damn cool too.

Next, we have Chase Hawk. As this years XGames Park winner you know the edit will be crazy. Chase is as smooth as a baby's butt even when he is travelling to places like Washington.

On top of the videos Oddysey announced the dates for the best contest in the world, Texas Toast. Check out the flyer for the dates and hit the SITE for the rider's list.Krisnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06547523259969934501noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6883694319798256233.post-80127364498780590172014-10-09T22:00:00.000-07:002014-10-20T20:18:27.383-07:00Basic Freecoaster Maintenance
Maintaing a freecoaster is one of the most daunting things about owning a freecoaster. If you don't maintain your freecoaster, it will blow up much faster than any other part on your bike, so lets learn the right way to do this.

Personally, I rebuild my coaster every two weeks. Rebuilding should be done anywhere from 2 weeks to two months. Two months is the absolute maximum that you should go without re greasing your hub, otherwise you run the risk of blowing bearings, and shredding internals, leaving you with a useless $200 paperweight.

Grease

The type of grease that you use in your hub is more important than you might think. Use too heavy of a grease and your hub will feel sluggish, light grease will not last long at all and not provide proper lubrication long enough before you replace the grease. Stay away from oils and wax lubricants as these are too thin and won't do much for your coaster. Heavy bearing grease is much too viscous and makes everything slow and hard to pedal. The best two greases to use are white lithium or phil wood grease. White lithium grease is a good balance between heavy and light and can be found very cheap from OSH, Home Depot or pretty much any hardware store. Phil wood grease is more expensive and usually will only be found at a bike shop, but is a better choice than white lithium if you can afford it. I used white lithium grease for almost 3 years and just recently switched to Phil Wood grease, and the difference is definitely noticeable, but regular lithium grease works just fine.

What You Need

1. A freecoaster (obviously)

2. An adjustable wrench or cone wrench

3. A set of allen keys

4. Grease

5. Paper towels or rags

6. Rubber mallet or a hammer and a block of wood and an old axle nut

How to Rebuild Your KHE Design Freecoaster

First, you are going to want to take the wheel off of your bike, and unscrew the axle nuts. Then you are going to insert the allen key into the slot in the axle, and take the drive side cone nut off. The driver should screw out and be able to be pulled off. After you take off the driver, put an old axle nut onto the drive side of the hub, with part of the nut sticking out above the axle. Now take a mallet or a hammer and a block of wood and tap lightly until the axle assembly pops out of the non drive side, and take off the axle nut to allow the axle to come all the way off. Insert the Allen key into the axle and take the non drive side cone nut off. The bearing on the non drive side of the axle, along with the stepped spacer should slide right off, and the axle should look like this:

Everything that is greased on the hub that you have when you take it out are the places you should grease. Make sure to grease the seats of the bearings as well. Wipe all of the grease off of the axle and parts, and replace it with your grease of choice. It should look exactly the same as when you took it off, except with a little bit more grease. Take pictures of everything the first time you take them out to remember the order and if it should be greased or not. Make sure to grease the threads of the driver and clutch as well, and and on all of the non threaded parts of the axle. Now, take the stepped washer and put it back on, along with any slack spacers, followed by the non drive side bearing. Now put the non drive side cone nut back on. The tapered piece with the threads and little spines on the outside should still be in the shell. If it isn't, put it on the axle before the stepped washer. Put the axle assembly back into the hub shell, and thread the driver in to make sure the bearing goes back in straight. Put the old axle nut back onto the non drive side just a bit, and tap it back into the hub until the bearing is all the way seated. Now the last step is to take the little tapered washer and put it back onto the driver with the curved side facing the driver, and the drive side cone nut back on. Hand tighten the cone nuts, and then tighten them just slightly with a wrench. These instructions should work on any freecoaster with KHE internals such as the Primo Freemix, Demolition Rotator, Colony Freecoaster, Federal Freecoaster, Shadow Raptor and many more hubs. Welcome back to this edition of the weekly round up. We are a bit late this week, but you can usually check in every Saturday to see what videos you have missed. This week we have some real bangers. There was also some big news this week involving Eastern Bikes. Hit the jump to see everything you might have missed from last week.
#5.
First up we have the Peep game. Steve Croteau has been doing these for a minute. This one has Sean Ricany, Gabe Brooks, Christian Rigal, Brandon Begin, and many more.

#4.
Next, we have Thomas Glew at DDASC. Glewy has got bikeflips on lock and is not afraid to throw them anywhere. He kills the park and that is what earned him a spot as number 4.

#3.
David Grant and Reed Stark jib around portland. Even there jibs are pretty damn good, so you do not want to miss this one.

#2. Calvin Kosovich is an australian street rider. That's right, not all of them are park rats. He absolutely kills it in the streets and throws down some dope rail moves.

#1.
Aj Anaya is actually a pretty good rider when he isn't getting into fights with other riders. This is probably the best video AJ has put out. He put a lot of work into this and it really shows. I'm looking forward to seeing what he puts out in the future.

On top of these awesome videos we also have some big news about Eastern. They are being forced into receivership by a judge in North Carolina. CLICK HERE to read more about it and see how Jon Byers responded to this news.
That's it everybody. Check in next Saturday for the next weekly round up.Krisnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06547523259969934501noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6883694319798256233.post-6609388036101066782014-10-02T17:58:00.001-07:002014-10-02T18:50:05.034-07:00R.I.P. Eastern
Eastern has been around longer then you have been alive (more than likely), but it might all be coming to an end. This week a judge ruled that Jon Byers and his associates needed to hand the company over because they owed 1.5 million dollars for manufacturing and owed 500,000 dollars worth of bikes to shops. I don't feel like I can explain it quite as well as the original article so go ahead and CLICK HERE to check it out.

Hopefully, the new owners won't kill off the company completely and they will come back stronger than before. One thing is for certain though, Eastern will not be the same from this day on. What are your thoughts on this? Are you happy? Are you sad? do you think it's long overdue?

UPDATE: Jon Byers made a visit to the VitalBMX forum to let some of the riders know his feelings on it. I don't want to post the whole thing as it is in response to somebody else but here are the important parts below.

"All of the files related to this are public domain and have been for quite some time. I'd suggest anyone taking the time to comment also take the time to use their internet acumen and review the documents before making an intelligent post. Many have no idea what this is about and so I will be brief in comment without going into details of what is officially available.

First, I'd like to thank every single rider and employee who has ever ridden or worked for us. You've all done an incredible job and I hope I didn't push you too hard, but am proud of the achievements you all have accomplished post employment. I'd also like to thank every customer who has ever bought a product from us.. you are among hundreds of thousands and Mike and I would like to thank each and every single one of you!!

Eastern is one of the largest privately owned BMX brands in the world, a level most companies will never see, yet we always tried to keep numbers under the radar and build the business without detection. Mike and I have never been coverage jockeys, but have offered a few interviews from time to time. Going from small offices and quickbooks to sophisticated ERP systems with multiple warehouses is no easy feat. All in the effort to support our customers.

I guess here is the shocker for most of the people out there.. Eastern is still operating, still processing orders and still going. Mike and I are here to support the new owners in full. Eastern has not shut down and will not be shutting down. -Jon "

P.S. I dislike how he talks down towards other companies while he is the first BMX company in the past 5 years to be court ordered to hand his company over. I just feel like now of all times it is essential to be humble about it, but instead he just pointed towards his past success and not his present failures. Just my opinion on his statement. We are back this week with a killer weekly round up. I know we have missed the last 2 weeks, but now we are better than ever.
#5)
Brian Gavagan. Up until yesterday I had never even heard of him. He earned his spot on this list with a 37 second video where he managed to do a handrail, roast through some jumps, and then finished it all up with a nice flatland line. This guy has fun just being on his bike. A concept that seems to get fuzzier each year.
#4)
Dan Foley can create amazing videos with any camera you give him. This video was filmed with just the Iphone 6 and is put together bettter than most videos with huge camera crews. Dan is talented both on the bike and off.

#3)
Kuntsform?! in Germany just snatched Pete Sawyer off the free agent list. Which isn't an actual list in BMX, but hey who cares. What really matters is the fact that Pete Sawyer just released this sick video to celebrate him getting added to the team. That bench wallride to 3 was bonkers!

#2)
Tom Justice and Alex Coleborn Annihilate Corby - More BMX Videos

Another video from overseas. Tom Justice and Alex Coleborn throw some tricks down for Chris Wilmhurst's camera. That Tailwhip-tiretap-barspin was pretty sick. On a side note, Alex doesn't throw a single flip in this video which is pretty cool to see a park rider that is so diverse he cant make a bangin' edit without his signature trick.

Ever since Tyler posted that this was gonna be released on the internet this week I have been trying to decide whether to post it or not. I thought about even giving it it's own post. Instead, I decided to make it the top video of the week. This is gonna be a huge contender at Nora Cup this year. (which is coming up VERY soon!) Tyler Fernengel's section is ******* insane!Krisnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06547523259969934501noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6883694319798256233.post-10925658757353097572014-09-23T19:44:00.002-07:002014-09-23T19:44:21.027-07:00Review: Premium Sub-10 V2
Today we will be reviewing the Premium Sub-10 V2 stem. Premium recently came out with the v3, but I have not gotten my hands on that yet. This stem is CNC-machined out of 6061-t6 aluminum. It has a reach of 53mm and is 9.6 ozs. It is an average weight so nothing special there even with the cut out.

Appearance: 9/10
It is a very good looking stem. I really like the cut out as it makes it unique from other stems, but not everybody does. The angles are sharp the back is rounded to be knee friendly... So your knees will love this stem too.
Strength: 8/10
This is where people are divided. A lot of people assume that the huge cut out means that it is super weak, but from my everyday riding on it I can tell you that is not true. I absolutely love mine and trust it to hold up for most anything. If you are a mini Sean Burns and do roof drops often then you might want to consider a different stem.
Clamping power: 10/10
I have never had this stem slip on me. NEVER! I have run 3 different pairs of bars and each was held tightly. The last time I switched bars I actually had trouble getting the bars to move until the bolts were almost completely out.
Overall rating: 9/10

I have had absolutely no problems with my stem in the 3 years that I have had it. My friend also had it for a year before he gave it to me and never had an issue with it and he ended up buying another one in purple. I wouldn't recommend it for Sean Burns type riding, but really are there any parts that can handle that type of riding for extended periods of time? Based off of this version of it I will be picking the v3 up as my next stem. I hope this has helped at least a couple people learn a bit more about this stem and not just make assumptions about it.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6883694319798256233.post-82643708184472844372014-09-22T18:16:00.000-07:002014-09-22T18:16:55.818-07:00Introducing the New and Improved Deviant

Lately, we have been slacking on our posts. The reason is because we have been bored by this. We work for hours each night and really we are just a shitty version of TheComeUp. So, why try to copy a company when we can be our own. Our new focus over here at Deviant will be to produce original content for everybody to enjoy. We might post some of our favorite videos but really we just want to provide the best content in the world for BMXers. We also want to help support our younger riders. We would love for you guys to send videos in. this will give us a chance to really plan out our articles and to give you the absolute best media on the web.

To our photographers get ready for a new area for us photographers to get together and talk. This will be unveiled in the near future. So keep your eyes out! Steve and I thank you guys for checking the blog each week. Keep your eyes open for a new article later this week.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6883694319798256233.post-19115176185846329922014-09-21T00:59:00.003-07:002014-09-21T01:09:19.525-07:00BMX - Cult's Small Talk DVD - Josh AldereteBefore I saw the Cult: Small Talk video and after I heard that it was only people from the AM team, I really didn't expect much more than dry and dull riding. Then I saw the full DVD. After seeing Josh Alderete's section, I am seriously convinced that he is the reincarnation of either Ian Schwartz or Karl Poynter. Every clip in his section is clean and purposeful, and it really does remind me of some of Ian's or Karl's old video parts in the way that Josh pulls every fakie clean, and straight as a ruler. Ever want to know what we ride when we aren't posting videos and articles about fights and Adam 22? Probably not. But, either way here they are. The thing that motivated us to make this blog. The thing that has given us our best memories. The thing that has broken our heart.
Remember that crazy contest a couple weeks ago that Red Bull hosted? The one that Daniel Sandoval won? The one that has a THOUSAND TONS of dirt made into the largest quarter in the world? Flybikes rider Courage Adams just got on the Red Bull BMX team, and after taking a look at his old Welcome to Fly video, it's surprising that he hadn't gotten snatched up sooner. Every single trick he pulls is snappy, clean, and calculated, a refreshing change from the popular slow and tech riding that you see a lot.
