Weekly Round Up: 9/27/14

We are back this week with a killer weekly round up. I know we have missed the last 2 weeks, but now we are better than ever.
#5) <iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/107217994" width="853" height="480" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
Brian Gavagan. Up until yesterday I had never even heard of him. He earned his spot on this list with a 37 second video where he managed to do a handrail, roast through some jumps, and then finished it all up with a nice flatland line. This guy has fun just being on his bike. A concept that seems to get fuzzier each year.

Review: Premium Sub-10 V2

Today we will be reviewing the Premium Sub-10 V2 stem. Premium recently came out with the v3, but I have not gotten my hands on that yet. This stem is CNC-machined out of 6061-t6 aluminum. It has a reach of 53mm and is 9.6 ozs. It is an average weight so nothing special there even with the cut out.

Introducing the New and Improved Deviant

Lately, we have been slacking on our posts. The reason is because we have been bored by this. We work for hours each night and really we are just a shitty version of TheComeUp. So, why try to copy a company when we can be our own. Our new focus over here at Deviant will be to produce original content for everybody to enjoy. We might post some of our favorite videos but really we just want to provide the best content in the world for BMXers. We also want to help support our younger riders. We would love for you guys to send videos in. this will give us a chance to really plan out our articles and to give you the absolute best media on the web.

To our photographers get ready for a new area for us photographers to get together and talk. This will be unveiled in the near future. So keep your eyes out! Steve and I thank you guys for checking the blog each week. Keep your eyes open for a new article later this week.

BMX - Cult's Small Talk DVD - Josh Alderete

Before I saw the Cult: Small Talk video and after I heard that it was only people from the AM team, I really didn't expect much more than dry and dull riding.  Then I saw the full DVD.  After seeing Josh Alderete's section, I am seriously convinced that he is the reincarnation of either Ian Schwartz or Karl Poynter.  Every clip in his section is clean and purposeful, and it really does remind me of some of Ian's or Karl's old video parts in the way that Josh pulls every fakie clean, and straight as a ruler.

Peep Game - Pt. 2

A quick little edit from the guys over at dealine. They hung out in downtown LA, smoked some weed and stacked a couple quick clips. Check it.

Davis Heyne

Davis throws down some sick moves all the way from down under. Chris Whyte, the filmer, did an awesome job with this even with all the setbacks!

“When Dayvis And I first started talking about filming a web video we had planned on it taking around 2 months but between Day being hit by a car, having his bike stolen, rupturing a ligament in his ankle and me breaking my foot and being unable to film for a while its taken the better part of a year. Even with all the bad luck we had along the way we still had one hell of a good time and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.”

Bike Checks

Ever want to know what we ride when we aren't posting videos and articles about fights and Adam 22? Probably not. But, either way here they are. The thing that motivated us to make this blog. The thing that has given us our best memories. The thing that has broken our heart.

Red Bull Quarter Master

Remember that crazy contest a couple weeks ago that Red Bull hosted? The one that Daniel Sandoval won? The one that has a THOUSAND TONS of dirt made into the largest quarter in the world? Well that video just dropped. If you want to watch crazy riding on an even crazier set up watch this. If not, you are missing out.

Vans in Oregon

Vans has just blessed us with 11 minutes of their team in Oregon. With riders like Gary Young, Ben Hennon, Greg Illingworth and Bas Keep among others you know this is gonna be good.

Courage Adams Now on Red Bull

Flybikes rider Courage Adams just got on the Red Bull BMX team, and after taking a look at his old Welcome to Fly video, it's surprising that he hadn't gotten snatched up sooner.  Every single trick he pulls is snappy, clean, and calculated, a refreshing change from the popular slow and tech riding that you see a lot.

Ty Morrow in L.A.

Ty Morrow, Shawn Mcintosh, Gabe Brooks and Steve Croteau all met up and rode in downtown L.A., and Ty got some crazy tech street moves in like the wallride to smith at 1:09.  Be sure to catch Ty and many others at the Dew Tour stop in Brooklyn this weekend!

About Deviant

Steven Oliverio

Hi, my name is Steven Oliverio and I am 15 years old from So-Cal.  I have been riding freestyle BMX for around 3 years, and I typically ride street and DIY setups.  My favorite types of setups are flat rails, ledges, and benches.

Kris Risner

Hey, how's it going? I'm Kris and the main creator of DeviantBMX. I ride street and park, but prefer plazas because of the convenience. I'm 17 and in addition to riding BMX, I also shoot photos. Add me on Facebook to see my newest photos. I've been riding for almost 6 years now. I live right outside of St. Louis (Go Blues!). If you are ever in town hit me up and we can ride.

DeviantBMX

Now that you have met the people behind the page let's talk about Deviant. We are dedicated to posting the best BMX videos out on the web. We also want to help amateurs get noticed so feel free to  shoot us an E-mail with your latest video! Sometimes on our site you will see ads on the sidebar and you might also see "Sponsored Posts". To cover the cost of running the site and store we have to put ads on the site. I apologize for the inconvenience, but to keep this site running it is a necessity.  Check out our forum. Our 100th member will get a free hoodie to keep you warm over winter.

Decoy Jam

After the Red Bull QuarterMasters contest the riders were invited out to the Decoy Trails. Tons of riders in this including Tom Dugan, Kris Fox, Hucker, Josh Webber, Corey Bohan and more.

Dak- In the streets

Dakota Roche talks to Dew Tour about why he loves street riding. Dak will be riding at Dew Tour street next weekend in Brooklyn. As always expect Dak's smooth style and HUGE hops. CLICK HERE

Jeremie Infelise for The Division Project

I really like the way they put this edit together. And those roof gaps are pretty gnarly. So, all in all I would give this a 10/10 on the badass scale. Yes, that's real.

Montana Ricky 2014

Montana Ricky knows what BMX is all about. HAVING FUN! Even if you don't watch anything else make sure to watch the first line in this. Incredibly tech while being fun as hell! Dat song doe.

Chad Kerley and Dennis Enarson

Anytime you hear about these guys you know it will be good. Follow Chad and Dennis around San Diego as they get a couple sessions in. Chad shuts down that flat rail spot, but Dennis over pegs-to-whip was clean as all hell.

We're BACK!

Sorry about the really slow week and us not updating it until it was already pretty late. To really show how sorry we are we have this AWESOME video by Shawn Mcintosh "Shitty". He filmed this while filming "Holy Fit". I haven't seen holy fit but if his section is as good as this video we are in for a treat. Check it out!

Apologies.

I would like to apoligize to everybody. There has been a lot of stuff going on in my family and I spent most of the weekend up at the hospital. We will be back monday with all of the new videos including the ones we missed this week. Next week's round up will also include 10 videos to include last week's videos. Tuesday we will have a review up on the Premium Sub-10 V2 stem. Sorry for the inconvience.

Security Guard VS. BMXers

Last week, Tyler Rizzi uploaded a video of an altercation between him and the local mall cops.Since then, it has blown up all over the internet and even mainstream media has done stories on it. We are here to explain from the rider's side what happened, give our thoughts on it,  and make sure everybody knows all of the information on the situation.

Contemplating BMX's Fate

chillerz
Adam22 over at TCU posted this article that he wrote. It's about how BMX will be impacted in the future. No matter what your thoughts on Adam are, you should still read this because he makes a ton of good points. Of all people Adam knows BMX well and will be a huge factor in how BMX is transformed in the next couple of years. CLICK HERE or click the photo to read the article.

Brandon Begin on Merritt Pro

Brandon Begin has been added to the Merritt Pro team. This kid is moving up the ranks really quick. I can't wait to see what his next move will be!

Kevin Peraza Brings the Heat

I can barely get out of the house when it's 107* outside. Let alone go ride a skatepark and not almost die while doing. For this reason it is probably good that it was Kevin Peraza out there and not me. He went and threw down a ton of stuff while hanging with his pals. Even his brothers and dad got some clips in this!

Orange MotoRoss Bike Check

Do you like oranges? What about orange frames? Well head on over to the Sunday Bikes website and check out Aaron Ross' newest bike check if watching a bike get splattered with oranges is something that you want to see.  Make sure to watch out for more information on the prototype Odyssey Clutch freecoaster that he has been riding that is on display at Interbike 2014.

Alec Siemon Edit

17 year old Alec Siemon aka @alec_shmalec just dropped his first major edit, and as you would expect from one of the first people to do a nose manual to tailwhip, he goes hard with some burly tech moves like the uprail tooth hanger to hard 180 at 0:37.  Song is Duck and Creep by DJ Smokey 666.

Summer Dirt Jam in Chicago

14_garden_JAM_91314-640
If you are in Chicago this Saturday head on out to this jam. It has been postponed twice now because of weather so hopefully it stays dry for some fun riding to go down.

Review: S&M ATF

This USA made all terrain frame weighs in at 4.65 pounds and features a butted Super Therm tubeset, removable seatstay located thread on 990 brake mounts, no threads for removable gyro tabs, integrated seat clamp, top and downtube gussets, and an integrated headtube.

Dak for Cult- Cultifornia

Dak is a madman. That Uprail-Nose Manual is just crazy! This has got to be the best video to come out this week!

Aleix Barau- Welcome To Macneil

MacNeil BMX - Aleix Barau - Welcome to the Team from MACNEIL BMX on Vimeo.
Aleix just got welcomed to the team by Macneil with this awesome video. Aliex is from Spain and this edit is a great testament to why he deserves to be on the Macneil team.

The Coast is Calling

The Coast is Calling from Freed Bikes on Vimeo.
Another team video, this time from Freed Bikes. It's really cool to see how many teams are getting out and doing trips around the country or even the world. Freed took a trip down the coast of Oregon to ride and chill and released this video to document it.

Tony Hamlin for Kink

This video has everything from tech grinds to sex dolls. I'm really impressed with how technical he gets while being fuck-footed which is known to be harder. And I'm not gonna spoil the ender for you but it's super tech.

Federal in Amsterdam

Monday. The day of team edits. This time it's Federal in Amsterdam. Check this out to see the stuff Federal got done on their trip.

Colony in Adelaide

"Earlier this year we were invited by the ERC to come over and ride with the locals at some of Adelaide's parks. Over 4 days we collected footage for this video to be used for schools showcasing BMX and the lifestyle that it brings.."

Weekly Round Up

Demolition is on a roll. This is the second week to have a Demolition video make it in the top 5. We also have Dan Foley and Sean Burns in the top 5 this week. Not to mention the awesome articles, huge changes to the site and sponsorship shift for a certain Animal team rider.

Re Up: Brandon Begin for OSS

If you don't like the type of riding where you use all 4 pegs and a crank arm in one line then you probably won't like this video. But, if you like huge crashes down even bigger stairsets then you will love the first clip. Brandon begin rides every ledge on Los Angeles for this street video from OSS.

Boqer & Ethan Mumford Game of Bike

Boqer and Ethan Mumford have a friendly game of bike on resi. Tons of fun and laughs to be had throughout. Go check out boqer.com to get a hold of some cool merchandise.

Re Up: Chad Kerley for the Hunt

This is my go-to video to watch and get pumped to go ride. Chad Kerley and Christian Rigal really put in a lot of work in the streets of California. In my opinion, this is the video part that really propelled Chad to the top of the BMX world. Check out all of those manual lines he pulls!

Iz Pulido in Small Talk

Cult is releasing parts from the Small Talk DVD. If you haven't seen it yet you NEED to see it. First up is Iz Pulido. Iz is a crank grind god. Hit the jump to see the intro also.

Ryan Guettler leaves Colony

Ryan Guettler has left Colony to join Hyper/Snafu as their brand manager.
“I didn’t think I would ever be writing this here but Ryan Guettler is no longer riding for Colony as of today.
He has decided to leave the team, to take a job as a brand manager / pro rider at Hyper & Snafu. I know Ryan has wanted a job within the industry for a while now & I personally wish him all the best in this new chapter in his life.
Ryan has been with Colony since our inception in 2005, he was the first rider I chose as a team rider back then. More importantly, I have known & ridden with Ryan since he was just 7 years old. It has been a fun ride the last 24 years & I am sure there will be many more sessions to come. I do thank you Ryan for your efforts with Colony over the years, it is appreciated. Let the good times roll ahead !! I wish you all the best mate" – Clint.
Here's Ryan's farewell to Colony
"What ever I write will not show my appreciation and gratefulness I have for Clint Millar and the family I have over at Colony. All the road trips and good times with the team will be my memories for life. Nothing will change our friendship or the the way I think of the guys over at Colony but this next step is a must for me to take. My career is sunsetting and I’ve always wanted to learn the business side of things. I’ve been through all the ups and downs with in BMX over the past 20 years of my career, my knowledge will help Hyper and Snafu. This would not have been an option with out Clint guiding me along the way. He is a best friend and the god of front brakes, I wish Clint nothing but the best. To all the riders at Colony keep it rubber side down and I’ll miss you guys – Ryan.”

Owen Dawson for Division

OWEN DAWSON - DIVISION BRAND from DIVISION BRAND on Vimeo.

Owen Dawson just released a bad ass video for division. Owen is from Canada and he loves handrails. Hopefully, now that he is on Division we will get to see more of this kid!

DeviantBMX Forum

After talking to a lot of people there was one thing everybody agreed on. We, as BMXers, needed a new forum. We had TheComeUp board but that died after a design change. Then, we had Vital, which is still running but after a ton of trolls and scams has slowly become more about drama and less about bike parts. There was a ton of bullying that left a sour taste in most people's mouth. To help keep the BMX community thriving I decided to create my own forum. A place where we can all just chat and not worry about trolls or being bullied. A place about BMX, not drama. The way a forum should be. Click forum at the top of the page to reach it or click HERE. Enjoy.

Front Brake Instagram Slam

I always love the type of web edits where after watching it you immediately feel compelled to watch it again, and again, and again, and this is one of them.  This Instagram slam featuring front brake riders Two Brake Tony, Bobby Altiser, Pat Kelly, TJ Henderson and Mike Dinello all throw down some mind boggling tech tricks that might take a few replays to understand.  Ever wanted to see what a fufanu on another rider's tire looks like? Watch and you might just find out.

Tripod Seat System

Ever wonder what was so special about the tripod seat system from Fly? Well wonder no more. Fly just released an informational video to tell us all about the system. And if the video still doesn't satisfy you go ahead and check out tripodseatsystem.com

Deven Ferrer at the Full Factory Ramps

Full Factory from Mutiny Bikes on Vimeo.
Deven Ferrer was in California filming for his latest edit from Mutiny and he got invited to the Full Factory ramps. Deven is looking pretty good on that freecoaster. And that line at 1:00? Smooth as butter.

Dan's Comp 15% off Sale

15off_0914
Dan's Comp is having a sale on everything in store and online! All you have to do is enter the code 45LC at checkout. Have you been wanting a new wheelset? Or new school clothes? Well, now is the time to buy them because a deal like this does not come around often!

Justin Hughes on WeThePeople

Lately a lot of amateurs have been added to teams. Justin Hughes is the latest one to join a team. And that 180-Double peg- Indian out he pulls is smooth as butter. With moves that clean I can see why WeThePeople snatched him up.
"Growing up in Montreal under the wing of Dill, Justin Hughes had the best and the worst mentor. It was clear from day one that Justin had a very natural talent on his bike and at only 18 years old, the future is very bright for this young shredder."

Taylor Ramsdale- Welcome to Fox

Taylor Ramsdale is one of those kids that make the rest of us look bad. He is 16 and from Australia. Like most Australians he is an absolute killer on ramps.  Based on this video we will be seeing more of him in years to come.

Mike Hucker Wins At Quarter Master

Mike Hucker won the highest air at the quarter master competition with a 20+ foot air. This looks awesome and I bet the footage will look even cooler. Just look at the size of those ramps! The guy at the bottom looks like an ant.

How To: Paint

When I first decided to paint my frame, I really got overwhelmed with the sheer amount of options for paint, recommended procedures and conflicting ideas.  So I decided to write an all inclusive guide to everything painting, with as much detail as possible to avoid confusion.  This article will follow my procedure for painting with my 20.25 S&M ATF frame.  This article might look huge and daunting, but I tried to make it as clear and easy to understand as possible, with pictures to further clarify things.

Christian Rigal for Demolition

Christian not only kills it behind the lens(Check out Markit Zero if you don't believe me) but he also kills it in front of the lens. Almost every clip is a banger. That footplant 180 crook has got to be one of the coolest things I have seen all day though.

Raditudes Episode 7

Drew Bezanson heads out to Pennsylvania for the Mongoose Jam and absolutely kills it. (Check out that truckdriver drop in!) He also make a stop at the trails before heading home. Meanwhile, Anthony Napolitan and Ronnie Napolitan head out to hang with Dennis Enarson and ride his ramp set-up.

Supreme Testing

Shadow goes behind the scenes to show us just how much testing their new line of parts goes through. Shadow is not your average company picking and choosing parts from a catalog. No, they design and test all their parts to make sure you get your money's worth.
“The Supreme Standards testing was born out of the idea of elevating and progressing the testing of our parts outside of the typical international standard machine testing that is very common in the BMX industry. Obviously, the stresses of BMX riding are anything but “Standard” but in order for us to continually increase the strength and performance of our parts, we also need to continue to elevate the level of abuse that our parts suffer in the design stages. As you read on, you will learn about the five stages of testing that all Shadow parts must go through before being labeled Supreme Standard Parts.”

Hoder Off Lotek

After some Instagram drama, pegless street boss Mike Hoder and his longtime shoe sponsor Lotek have parted ways.  It's only fitting to take a look at some failed attempts on his massive wallride to street drop from his Animal QSS6 part.  Not too often that you see someone  go against the grain and drop a massive banger like this.

Dan Foley- Welcome to WeThePeople

Put Dan Foley in the park, streets, or in the woods and he will rip it up. This video is a testament to that fact. My favorite clip has got to be him doing the seatgrab nac. Timeless. The fact that he self filmed most of this is also pretty impressive.

Kriss Kyle Bike Check

Kriss Kyle is the proud owner of quite possibly the nicest bike I have ever laid my eyes on. I really love the grey tires with the gold frame. Click HERE to see more photos of this beauty! While you are at it go ahead and take a look back at his impossible looking "walla-roll" which is british for wallride to barrel roll.

Sean Burns in FX Simpsons Commercial

If you have not heard yet, FX is playing every episode of "The Simpsons" ever. As if that wasn't cool enough FX has a commercial playing (above) with Sean Burns getting the last clip. I think everybody dreams of being on TV but getting hit in the nuts is not the way that most people would have chosen to do it. Either way, it is awesome. What are you doing still reading?! Click that play button!
